The word ‘Cataract’ is derived from a Greek word ‘katarraktes’, which means waterfall. You must be wondering what connection is there between a waterfall and a cataract? Earlier people thought that there was some kind of congealed fluid in the human brain which flowed out, just like a waterfall and remained as a cloudy haze on the eye lenses, and so they named it cataract.
So, cataract is basically a partial opacity in the lens which blurs vision and may even lead to complete loss of vision, if not treated properly and on time. It is the condition of the eye in which the lens is unable to reflect enough light on the retina which is why the images that are seen are not clear.
